Ryan Shank is the founder of Cameo Ventures, a startup venture studio that specializes in establishing and investing in early-stage tech companies and digital assets. Over the past five years, Ryan has made 27 diverse investments across industries such as B2B SaaS, marketplaces, D2C, and Fintech. He has seen four successful exits so far, representing a 4.09x realized multiple on cash. His current combined MOIC (multiple on invested capital) stands at 4.46x.
In Ryan’s portfolio, there are two companies last valued at over $2 billion in which he invested around $100 million each. Another company, which he funded during its seed round at $13 million, is now valued at $2.1 billion. This represents an impressive 68x return multiple even after dilution.
Ryan’s strategy is to invest in 3-5 companies annually with checks ranging from $25,000 to $50,000. He also aims to start one company per year, dedicating significant time to market research to develop a strong thesis and conviction around certain ideas.
Prior to his tenure at Cameo Ventures, Ryan was the co-founder and CEO of PhoneWagon, which was acquired by CallRail, and the COO of mHelpDesk, which was acquired by HomeAdvisor. In his leisure time, Ryan enjoys playing pickleball and polo.
